Heliventures has experience conducting wild animal capture in New Zealand. The techniques used for capturing wild animals vary from net gunning, darting and mustering. We have a state of the art live animal capture net gun which can be modified to capture animals of various sizes.
Wild animals can stress quickly and can be overcome physically and mentally by the act of pursuits and captures, so to minimise the risk the capture crew requires a very detailed understanding of how to manage animals
on the ground from the helicopter. It is important to minimise the potential stress, injury or death of the animal during the capture and transportation process.
We recently conducted a NZ first involving the live capture of wallabies. These animals were fitted with tracking collars to enable their movement to be monitored allowing for a better understanding of their spread.
